While the Oakbrook Father's Day Car Show and the Geneva Concours are always the pinnacle car show events of the summer for me, there is always room to be surprised. My friend Val invited me to the Jordan X 23XI Takeover event during NASCAR weekend in Chicago. The event would feature 40 curated cars from a broad cross section of car culture: JDM Tuners, Exotic Cars, Euro Cars, and Lowriders.

Val had attended a car show that was sponsored by the car club fullydrivn in Elgin in June. Unfortunately, the show was the same day as the Lake Bluff Car Show, and I had already committed to going to that show with my Dad and Sister. Val had a good time there, and met Serg and the crew at fullydrivn, who extended the invitation to this 23XI racing event. Val was nice enough to include me!

The event was scheduled to have a Police-led procession of cars into the venue at 6:30pm. At the event, there would be a DJ, food trucks, a racing simulator, and even a drift box with driving performed by Ryan Tuerck in a GR86. Around 5, we all met up in a school parking lot about a mile away. The cars in attendance were seriously impressive! The black RX7 was a Mid Night club car that was purchased and imported from Japan. The owner reported that the car had achieved a sub 1-minute time at Tsukuba Circuit in Japan. The RE Amemiya body kit was sick!

Another impressive car on display was this R33 Skyline GTR that was fitted with the whole HKS parts catalog including a 2.8 stroker kit. The HKS oil slick livery added visual interest to the car. Underhood, interior, and exterior were all modded and on-point!

I let Clay drive the 240 in the procession to the venue, which was about a mile away. The other motorists who were getting held up going in the opposite direction started pulling u-turns and things got kind of hectic, but we made it to the lot without incident.

As the cars rolled in the venue, the DJ had some commentary about each car. Music was pumpin' and the event seemed to be well organized. We were parked next to the 23XI Racing NASCAR for Tyler Reddick.

Since the 23XI Racing Team runs Toyota, there was a huge Toyota presence at the event. Off to the side, there was even a new GT86 in red, just like ours at home!

After the flurry of activity getting into the venue, there was time to pull out the chairs and chill for a bit. It was great to catch up with Val and spend some time with my family.

Tyler Reddick made an appearance at the event, and even had a chance to check out a few of the cars on display and interview owners. Tyler would later go on to a podium finish in 3rd for the NASCAR race on Sunday.

There was a good selection of lowriders and donks on display, with many owners proud to show off their hydraulic suspensions hopping and rolling on 3 wheels.

There were a lot of exotic cars on display as well, including McLarens and Lamborghinis. Many of the owners were not afraid to test out the rev limiters on their cars.

As the sun went down, the dramatic lighting at the venue came on, offering some great photo opportunities for the cars. The 240 was looking seriously sinister in the purple light!

After lining up with Val for some pictures, many spectators also walked up to capture some photos with the cars. Clay and I were able to sneak this shot in before we left.

After the show, I was surprised to see the attention the 240 got on Instagram. The shot above was courtesy of the photographer Midwestexposure. I love the contrast with the red paint and the black and white background! Overall, it was a great experience. The 240 ran flawlessly and we got home without too much drama. I am looking forward to future events with Val, Serg and the fullydrivn crew.
